The summer fayre is fast approaching.

Raffle tickets – If you would like to purchase raffle tickets please hand back the tickets and money to school.  There are raffle tickets at reception if you would like to buy more.

Tombola’s – We are still looking for donations for the tombola stalls.  There will be both an adults tombola and kids tombola, if you have any donations please hand them into the office.

Magicians Show – There are a few tickets remaining.  They will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  To purchase tickets please hand your money into the school before Wednesday.  After this we wont be able to issue any further tickets.  If there are tickets remaining these will be available on the day.

Home bakes – In true bake off style, we are looking for donations of home bakes.  Due to the high quality of bakers at the school 🙂 it is normally a very popular stall.  If you are able to make some home bakes, please include the ingredients on them and hand into the office on Friday.

The PTA would like to express our thanks for all your support in the lead up to the fayre.  We are getting excited!!  There will be lots to do including a bouncy castle (£2 unlimited), beat the goalie, coconut shy, hook a duck, magician shows, adopt a pet, splat a rat, glitter tattoos, lucky dip as well as strawberries and cream and hot dogs!!  The children have also been very busy drawing a self portrait  which has been printed onto tea towels.  These will be for sale at the fayre.  They are looking amazing, the kids have done an amazing job!

Lets hope we get another smashing sunny Saturday!

Hope to see you there

P2W Learning Leaflet Term 4

P2W Learning Leaflet Term 4

We will be finishing off data handling. We have been learning how to draw tally charts, bar graphs, Venn diagrams, Carroll diagrams and pictographs. We have been learning how to collect and record the data. We will also be able to read and answer questions related to graphs, charts and diagrams.

We will then move on to fractions. We will start by learning about halves and quarters. We will make links between our doubles facts and halving and dividing.

We will do some work on subtraction so it is as strong as our addition and look at creating fact families.

We will continue to improve our mental recall of number facts (Learn Its) at speed. This term’s Learn Its are focusing on doubles and making links to multiplication.

This term each reading group has a different focus. The Starfish will be sequencing pictures and building simple sentences that match these. The Seahorses will be answering simple cloze procedure sentences from a given set of words. The Sea Turtles will be learning to sequence summarised sentences in a logical order. The Jellyfish will be learning to make notes and use these to summarise the book they have read.

Our topic will be a literacy based topic this term so we will complete a wide range of written work related to the book/s.

We are consolidating the common words and continuing to add more to build up our vocabulary. These are the words also used for homework. Spelling words linked to our weekly sounds will now take place in class only.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be building up our athletic skills. We will consider the events that professional athletes take part in and take part in our own versions. We will record and evaluate our progress and share our thoughts on how we can improve our performance. Gym sessions also include team games.

Also see Miss Cunningham’s plans for Health and Wellbeing.

*P2W gym is on Mondays and Thursdays

We will be continuing The Arctic for the first month and this will be the theme of our class assembly.

After this our main topic will be based around a book/books. We will complete a wide variety of literacy based tasks inspired by what we have read. We will be looking closely at how the author brings the characters and settings to life.

P6R Learning Leaflet Term 4

Glashieburn School Primary 6 Learning Leaflet

Information for Parents     Term 4 2017

This term we are continuing to develop and consolidate our mental math agility through games, problem solving and revision activities.

We will be moving on to cover outcomes relating to fractions, decimals and percentages.  We will link our learning to real life situations so we can see the meaning in our learning.  We will also cover money management, budgeting and saving.

We will also be completing our ‘Big Maths Beat That’ challenge weekly, the children have a choice of whether to complete the 72 questions in 1 minute 40 secs or they can take any time up to 10 minutes and try and decrease this weekly.

Spelling words will continue to be issued in class on a weekly basis and the children will participate in a range of active activities in class as well as focusing on the different strategies that they can use to help them spell these words correctly.  We will have a weekly spelling test on a Friday.

As our IDL topic is Chocolate we will be studying the novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ as a class and we will be completing a range of reflective reading task to help us gain a deeper understanding of the text and the themes within the book.  We will also have a wide range of comprehension activities from a wide range of texts and answer different question types to demonstrate our knowledge and understanding of what we have read.  We will continue to have free reading time on a weekly basis as well as library on a Friday.  We will be beginning a paired reading scheme with P3M and the P6 children will be their reading tutors, this will hopefully develop their reading ability and confidence.

In writing we are continuing. g to write for a wide range of purposes with a particular focus being on ensuring that our work is structured correctly and that it makes sense.  We will be linking our writing to our topic through both imaginative and functional genres.  We will build on our note taking skills and using a range of non-fiction sources to find specific and relevant information for different purposes.

We will develop our talking and listening skills through discussing ‘Newsround’ and participating in debates and cooperative activities.

Health and Wellbeing/IDL

In PE this term we will be working with RGU students to build on a range of different sports skills.  In class PE we will be participating in different athletics activities and challenges as well as continuing to develop our fitness and set individual targets and goals for improvement.

We will be beginning the P6 ‘Living and Growing’ programme this term where we will focus on how the body will change and develop throughout puberty, letters will be sent home to inform you of when this will begin.

Our IDL Topic this term is ‘Chocolate’ where we will be learning about the history of chocolate and how its use has developed over time.
