PM Nursery trip to the cafe and park

  1. The afternoon Nursery enjoyed a trip to Striders cafe in Dubford at the end of term, the children had super manners and staff commented on the fantastic behaviour of all of the children.  The weather was so nice that we then took a walk down to the park and then walked through the moors and back to Nursery.  All staff and children were very hot and sleepy when we got back!!

Happy Easter Holidays!

Afternoon Nursery Wee Green Spaces 2/3/17

All of the afternoon children came to the forest today.  They were given opportunities to climb, swing, investigate and explore within the area.  The adult led activities this week included ordering sticks by size, creating pictures using forest treasures and mark making around the forest with chalk.  The children have been learning about some of the animals that live in the jungle so also enjoyed getting into character and running around the forest!

Some of the boys used their imaginations to create a bus in the forest, we all climbed aboard the bus and they drove us all to the beach!!

The children behaved very well and listened to the adults, well done.

Morning Nursery Wee Green Spaces 2/3/17

Mrs Cruickshank, Mrs Broderick and Mrs Kidd took their Key Children to the forest today.  During the session the children had opportunities to explore freely using magnifying glasses and torches, climb and swing on the ropes.  The adult led activities encouraged the children to create pictures using their favourite forest treasures, use the trees and branches to do bark rubbings and collect cones and sticks using the language bigger and smaller to describe and order them.

Some of the boys were hunting in the trees for spiders and squirrels!!

The children as always demonstrated fantastic behaviour. Thank you again to all our adult helpers today 🙂

Nursery Trip to Striders Cafe

This morning children braved the wind and rain to have snack down at Striders Cafe in Bridge of Don.  They all paid for their own snack and were encouraged to spread their scones by themselves.  All of the children listened well to the adults as they walked there and back and tried very hard to put their dry suits on and off independently.  The adults and children enjoyed splashing in the puddles on the way!!

The staff at Striders commented on how well behaved the children were and how they would love to see us back again soon. The children described the Cafe as “awesome, great and cool”!

A huge thank you to all the Mums that came to help us.

Chinese New Year in Nursery

Last week we enjoyed taking part in lots of activities for Chinese New Year.  We enjoyed listening and dancing to Chinese music with some special visitors, had some Chinese food for snack, made our own Chinese dragons and had a go at picking up objects with chopsticks.

We were also very lucky to have one of our Nursery Mums Amy and her friend Ella come to our Nursery. The ladies told us the story of the Chinese Zodiac, helping us to do some Chinese writing and taught us how to count to 10 in Chinese.  Thank you again from all the boys and girls in the morning Nursery.

Nursery Learning Leaflet Term 3

Nursery Learning Leaflet January 2017

Welcome back, hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.  We have welcomed all our new children and families.

The children have been embracing Show and Tell and are really keen to share their favourite belongings with their friends.  We will continue encourage emergent writing in all areas of the nursery, with a particular focus on name writing independently.   We are working hard to develop the children’s confidence and knowledge of both familiar and new songs.   We are supporting the children to reflect and evaluate the activities in nursery to encourage and to become more familiar with such language.  Our pre-school children will be given story sacks home fortnightly these are to be shared and enjoyed with your child.  We appreciate any feedback you have for us regarding the story sacks.

As well as child led numeracy activities we will be focusing on measurement and shape, through indoor and outdoor activities.  We will continue to provide daily opportunities using the Numicon to further familiarise your child with this resource.

Health and Well Being

We are currently focusing on Our Senses.  The children are taking ownership of their floor book to record their development and experiences.  So far we have been on a listening walk, painted with spices in our paint, had a touchy feely box and played sound lotto with a cassette tape ( the children had no idea what is was!!) We have Gym all day Tuesday and a Wednesday am where we are looking at a variety of skills.  Please ensure your child has on comfy joggers or leggings on these days.  These photos and videos will be posted regularly on the school website.

As always, please share any concerns or questions you have with a member of the Nursery Team.

Nursery Term 2 Reflection Leaflet

Nursery Reflection Leaflet 2016

Term 2 is well underway and we are embracing the beginning of Christmas madness!

We have now completed Term 2 and the madness is over, for now!!!

This term we are working hard to develop our fine motor skills.  This will be done through adult focussed activities including using scissors, holding a pencil correctly, manipulation of playdough, activities using the Nursery Finger Gym that has been set up and using cutlery at the snack table.

The children enjoyed lots of different activities to help develop their fine motor skills, these will be continued throughout the rest of the school term.

All of the children have been learning the songs for the Christmas shows, the morning children will be performing “The Wriggly Nativity” and the afternoon children will be singing a variety of Christmas songs.  Morning children will be issued with a note soon advising you of your child’s part and what they should wear.

The children were fantastic in their performance of “The Wriggle Nativity”, all of the staff are very proud of all of your children.  A huge well done also to the afternoon children who sang a selection of Christmas songs to friends and family around our Nursery Christmas tree.

During the month of December we also had twin elves causing havoc in our Nursery, their antics prompted much laughter and conversation from the children!

The children have been exploring our new maths resource “Numicon” in more depth.   This is something that will continue and be used throughout the whole school.  The morning children will be exploring sequences and patterns as well as further developing their number knowledge.  There will be opportunities for the children to sort, share and match objects through all areas of the Nursery.

The afternoon children will be given opportunities to explore colour and pattern through hands on experiences and activities including painting, printing and using Numicon.

The morning children have had opportunities to explore numeracy activities outdoors through counting and matching activities, they have explore numeracy in the gym hall through games and they have been learning developing counting through Christmas songs.

The afternoon children have enjoyed opportunities to explore colours in the local environment as well as mixing colours, printing and matching colours through games.

Health and Well Being

This term, children and staff have established a good tooth brushing routine, this is done first thing in the morning as the children arrive.  This is optional for the children and should not be replacing the brushing of teeth at home.

All children took part in a focused activity, where they were given opportunities to brush and clean teeth, this promted conversations on the importance of brushing teeth.

With the dark nights approaching the staff with be discussing with the children the importance of staying safe.  This will be done through stories, role play opportunities, games and discussions.

This will be ongoing through to the start of next term.

The children are now very aware of the Wee Green Spaces routine and are embracing the outdoor opportunities.  They are engaging well and demonstrate creativity in the forest.  The adult focus for each session will come from the children and staff will plan challenging learning experiences accordingly.  Nursery staff have recently been on “Loose Parts” Training, this involves the children exploring and using their imagination to create and build.  They are given a variety of different materials and resources during these sessions.

We have now got a new container in our Nursery garden which contains a selection of loose parts for our “Loose Parts” play.  The children have been enthusiastic about this initiative and have demonstrated lots of creativity.  This has been a fantastic opportunity for staff to hold conversations with the children about what they have made and what they have used to do so.

Please check the day before Wee Green Spaces to make sure that it has not been cancelled for any reason.

The morning children have also been given a slot with our music specialist Miss Hamilton, your child will go to music on the week they are not at Wee Green Spaces.

The children responded well to the music sessions we had this term, they listened well and picked up the songs quickly.  They were both engaged and enthusiastic.  The children have now got into the routine of our Wee Green Space and we hope to get this back up and running early 2017.  Again we thank our parent helpers, without you we would not be able to visit the forest.

Wishing all of the children and their families a wonderful Christmas and a happy 2017!
