The Golden Cubes will be learning about money this term.  We will investigate everything about money from the value to foreign exchange.  At the moment we are looking at budgeting which we are really enjoying it.  We are planning a camping holiday for Miss Connell and we only have a budget of £800!  In problem solving we are still working on RUCSAC and will be independently using this strategy when taking part in activities.

The Shooting Spheres will also be learning about money this term.  We will investigate everything about money and focus more on the value of money, calculating bills, saving and budgeting.  At the moment we are learning about calculating household and shopping bills.  Hopefully we will now be able to help our parents with the shopping!  In problem solving we are still working on RUCSAC and will be able to use this independently by the end of primary 6.  We are looking at patterns at the moment which is really exciting as we have to find the pattern first before continuing the pattern, some questions are quite challenging.

The Diamonds are developing and revising strategies and processes for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  We will hopefully be able to use these independently soon as we all have our own strategy to use when calculating sums.  In problem solving we are further developing our knowledge and understanding of RUCSAC.  At the moment we are looking at patterns using shape, colours, numbers and words.

In topical maths we are all learning about area and volume at the moment.  We will be looking at how to measure and calculate area and volume within different shapes and compound shapes.  After this topic we will be looking at 2D and 3D shape.

In writing we will be looking at how to write diaries, postcards and  more descriptive stories.  We will be using our topic of WWII to help set the context of our writing.  We will continue to use VCOP and our Core Skills when writing to help further develop our writing.

The Blue Mangoes will be learning how to answer inferential questions about their novel.  We will focus on the writer’s style and structure of writing and look at why he/she has written in this way.  We will also look at questioning techniques.

Limes will be learning about literally and inferential questions focusing on character and setting. We will also look at questioning techniques.

Lemons will be learning about literal questions and focusing on vocabulary used in their novel.  We will also have a home reader each week to help develop our fluency skills when reading.

Miss Robertson will still be teaching us P.E during this term.

This term P6 chose to study the topic of World War II.  We will look at why the war started, events throughout the war and how did the war end.  During this we will further develop our mapping skills by identifying European countries on a map and identifying which countries were allies.  We will also investigate a child’s life throughout the war and compare it to our life today.  We will also look at what gas masks are and why they were used in the war.  We will have a chance to show our creative skills by building an Anderson shelter, gas mask and WWII plane.  We will also look at rationing and the role of the women in WWII.  In June we will be visiting the Gordon Highlander Museum as a trip and take part in a workshop, try on soldier outfits and hold weapons that were used in WWII.
