Information for Parents
Term 3 2017
This term we are learning mental multiplication strategies and we will also be learning how to use the formal written method. We will then be moving on to division strategies, both mentally and using the written methods.
We will also be looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shape and learning about how knowledge of shape is used in a number of real life contexts and vocations.
We will also still have regular CLIC maths sessions to develop our mental agility and a weekly ‘Big Maths Beat That Challenge’.
Spelling words will be issued in class on a weekly basis and the children will participate in a range of active activities in class as well as focusing on the different strategies that they can use to help them spell these words correctly. We will have a weekly spelling test on a Friday.
Each group has a new group novel which we will be working through in class and developing our knowledge of the text through a wide range of activities. We will also be developing our comprehension skills through Blooms Questions and other types of texts.
In writing we are continuing to write for a wide range of purposes with a particular focus being on ensuring that our work is structured correctly and that it makes sense. We will be working in ‘trios’ to plan our writing and to have peer support when checking/editing and assessing. We are also continuing to build on the range of vocabulary that we use and we will be improving our ability to use dictionaries and thesauruses.
This term the children will be completing a talk for homework – details to follow.
Health and Wellbeing/IDL
In PE this term we are building on our gymnastics skills and we will be using these to create routines and we will be using different apparatus to increase the difficulty of the basic moves.
We will also be focusing on developing our stamina and fitness through a range of games, circuits and activities.
Our IDL topic this term is ‘Marvellous Me’ where we will be working through a wide range of health topics. Some of the things we will be focusing on are – Healthy Living, Social Skills, Friendship, Bullying, Stereotyping, Discrimination, Celebrating Difference, Functions of the Body, Substance Misuse & Cyber Safety.
· We are very excited to be using Class D’Ojo to share our learning with you
· We will participating in a range of activities for Chinese New Year
· The P6 children have started French lessons with Mrs. Grant on a Wednesday afternoon
· PE will be on a Monday & Tuesday
· Please continue to bring in evidence of your wider achievements outside of school for our ‘Jigsaw’ pieces.
· If you have any old books at home please bring them to school to help fill our class library
