Primary 4C Learning Leaflet Term 4

Primary 4C Learning Leaflet: Term 4

Numeracy

Last term we worked on securing our times tables to help us solve every day situations and word problems. We will use this knowledge to support us with dividing this term. We will learn how to divide round numbers as well as numbers with remainders. We will also focus on calculating decimal numbers.

In maths we will be focusing on money. The class will be calculating totals of notes and coins, finding different ways of paying an exact amount using a variety of coins and notes, comparing costs to work out what they can afford and working out change from a given amount. The children will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing amounts to solve real life problems.

The class will move onto fractions and percentages once decimals are secured through the maths topic, money.

Literacy

We will continue to develop and secure different strategies which we can use to help us gain a deeper understanding of what we have read. We will use skills such as summarising, making predictions, creating character descriptions and creating story maps as well as answering both oral and written comprehension.

As the class have expressed their enjoyment of Roald Dahl novels both in and out of class, we will complete a mini book study using the text, Matilda!

This term we will learn the features and layout of creating a persuasive and informative leaflet. Later in the term we will focus on letter writing. VCOP will continue to be visited regularly.

Spelling will continue to be reinforced on a weekly basis.  Please encourage your child to frequently revise their words at home. Practice makes perfect!

IDL

This term we will be studying the Romans. The class loved Brett the Celt who visited us and taught us about his relationship and encounters with the Romans. He also showed us how the Romans built houses, made pots, baked bread and made jewellery. We can’t wait to learn more!

Health and Wellbeing

We will be focussing on different ways we are intelligent as well as thinking about how we can boost our peers and our own self esteem. Miss Robertson will be delivering P.E. and some health this term too. The class will attend swimming lessons this term at Bridge of Don pool.
