P1/2B Learning Leaflet

Term 4

April – June 2016

During this term, both P1 and P2 will be on developing their skills and knowledge in relation to different forms of measurement. We will be looking at non-standard and standard forms of measurement and P2s will be learning how to turn cm into mm.

We will be focusing on the topic of money and learning to recognise coins up to £2. We will be solving problems of how to make totals using the coins available and we will then extend our learning by finding the change due after paying for items.

Towards the end of term, we will be exploring information handling. We will be looking at gathering data and organising it by tallying, sorting into specific sets and sorting. We will begin to create and present our findings on a bar graph.

P2 will be focusing on answering literal and inferential questions. Pupils will be learning skills to aid their understanding of the story. P1 and P2 will continue to develop their decoding and prediction skills to identify unknown words.

P1 and P2 will be completing writing tasks based around their topic ‘Fairyland’ this term. We will further develop our ability to use descriptive language in our writing. We will also be working on using a range of openers and connectives, with correct use of punctuation. We will display these skills through tasks on letter writing, report writing, story maps and diary entries.

Spelling will be reinforced on a weekly basis.  New common words will be sent home in homework folders. P1 children will continue to work on their two letter sounds, and will have opportunities to blend these together to make words. P2 children will complete activities based on their new phoneme.

Health and Wellbeing

Miss Robertson will be doing P.E. with our class on Monday and Friday this term. See Miss Robertson’s learning leaflet for details of this term.

Within class we will be looking at road safety and how to be safe when in our environment. We will discuss the use of traffic lights, zebra crossings and high-vis jackets when walking on our roads.

This term, we have a very special job to do for a Friendly Dragon who visited our class. The Dragon informed us that fairyland is being destroyed and forgotten about because not enough children are reading fairy tales. We have decided to explore a new fairy tale each week as part of our topic and recreate fairyland in our classroom area. We are very excited about working together with the boys and girls in P1 and P2 and we really hope we can save fairyland for all the characters and the Friendly Dragon.
