P7W Learning Reflection

In maths this term we have learned about fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also learned about budgeting, bank statements and how to convert British money into a foreign currency. Within Big Maths we have continued to develop our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills by learning new strategies and techniques such as ‘Where’s Mully?’ and how to complete a coin card and fact family. We have challenged ourselves each day with a number memory challenge. We are using memory strategies to help us and have proved that we have a better memory for numbers than Miss Wright!

In literacy, we have enjoyed reading and discussing two class novels- ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘The Mystery of the Secret Room’ by Helen Moss. In our reading groups, we have also enjoyed reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. Our favourite activity was writing book reviews using Clicker 6 on the computers. This term most of our writing has been about our Space topic. We learned how to write persuasive letters to NASA telling them why we would be a good astronaut. We also wrote Haiku poems about Space and made them into a class book!

This term in French we have learned how to count to 31, how to say different colours and types of weather. We have been practising our French greetings to each other every day.  During Mandarin we have learned how to say the words for food, sports and transport. We enjoyed playing Chinese games and playing with shuttlecocks- it was tricky!

During PE we have been working on improving our fitness and playing team games such as football and hockey. We really enjoyed walking and running each day to complete the Expedition to Ethiopia challenge. As a class we travelled almost 500 miles! This term with Miss Robertson, we have been learning about gender stereotyping and muscle conditioning.

This term our topic has been space. We created pictures and fact files about the planets, we learned about the life cycle of a star and about the phases of the moon. We have been following Tim Peake’s space adventure and tweeting summaries about what we have learned. This term we really enjoyed visiting Satrosphere for our Science Champions training and completing experiments and science activities back in school with our P1 buddies! During Enterprise we learned about the costs involved in running a successful business. In groups we created our own Polo shirt company and made decisions about workers, wages and advertising. We became very competitive!
