Feedback from Parent Event National Improvement Framework

Thanks to everyone who attended the National Parent Forum Scotland workshop led by Lorraine Sanda (Strategy and Performance Learning Directorate, Scottish Govt.)

She shared how the Scottish Government sees parental and family engagement in a child’s education as a key factor in ensuring successful outcomes.

The Government want to improve and increase ways in which parents and families can engage with teachers and partners to support their children and increase the voice of parents in leading improvements with schools. What does it mean for you as a parent / carers? Here are key areas highlighted in the discussion.

  • Recognition that parental engagement is crucial
  • Clearer information of successful learning and teaching
  • Better feedback on children’s progress
  • Standardised assessment information which helps them understand their child’s next steps in learning P1, P4, P7 & S3
  • Greater Involvement in their child’s learning and school support to help their children
  • Parent Councils recognised as key to improvement
  • Evidence of parent views gathered

The National Parent Forum of Scotland have produced a nutshell to help parents and carers understand the NIF.
