Primary 4C Learning Leaflet: Term 3
This term we will continue to concentrate on multiplication and division for the 3, 4,6,7,8 and 9 times tables. We made good progress in term 2, and now need to secure our knowledge by applying multiplication in a range of contexts.
We will also be developing our mental maths capabilities as well as solving problems using a variety of strategies, working individually, in pairs and in groups.
Another focus for numeracy this term will be exploring telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks. If your child owns a watch, please encourage them to wear this daily! As this is a long term we hope to also cover data handling and measurement.
This term we will continue to learn about the different strategies which we can use to help us gain a deeper understanding of what we have read. There will also be a continued focus on reading with fluency and expression. Please encourage your child to read a range of genres every day.
This term we will learn the features and layout of instructional writing. Later in the term we will look at a variety of poems and apply the skills learned to create our own poetry.
Spelling will continue to be reinforced on a weekly basis. Please encourage your child to frequently revise their words at home. Practice makes perfect!
This term the children will be encouraged to talk about their thoughts and feelings about local, national and international news. The children have taken a real interest towards Newsround which we hope to watch daily. This will act as a stimulus for our discussions. The children will also be given the opportunity to learn and partake in debating later in the term.
This term’s topic will have a Space theme and the children have decided they would like to learn about the Solar System. We have already completed our own, personal research using books and the ICT Suite, ordered the planets from the Sun and created a timeline of significant events. We cannot wait to learn more about Space and find out more about Tim Peake’s adventure.
Health and Wellbeing
Miss Robertson will be delivering P.E. again this term. For health we will be exploring who can help us in emergencies and how to handle situations involving danger. We will revise emotions and how to handle these effectively.

It has been great getting to know the children of Primary 4C so far. The class have adjusted and settled well and have made me feel very welcome to Glashieburn Primary. I look forward to working alongside you to provide a range of learning experiences for your child this term.
