P7W Learning Leaflet
Information for Parents
Within Big Maths this term we will be revising, consolidating and extending our knowledge and skills in multiplication and division. We will learn how to complete fact families and coin cards.
P7 will be introduced to fractions, decimals and percentages this term. We will learn to find fractions of an amount, simplify fractions and we will learn about the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages.
We will continue to develop our problem solving skills. We will have opportunities to work both independently and in groups to learn more about the strategies and approaches we can use to help us.
Each group has already started a new novel. This term we will continue to use the reading strategies which we learned in term 1 with a focus on answering questions about the writer’s style and structure of writing.
Children will receive a reading homework task fortnightly which they should complete using their library book or another book they are reading at home.
This term we will be continuing to ‘up-level’ our writing using VCOP. Our writing will be linked to our IDL topic of Space. Through this we will create informative news reports, fact files and imaginative stories. Children will have opportunities to self-assess and peer-assess their writing.
Children will receive new spelling words each week which will be revised daily in class and through homework activities.
Health and Wellbeing
P7W will continue to have both PE sessions with Miss Robertson this term. These will take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Please see Miss Robertson’s Learning Leaflet for more information.
Through working in our co-operative groups for IDL, we will be thinking about what makes a team successful and learning to utilize the skills and qualities which each person can share.
This term we are going to become space explorers! P7W are currently working in co-operative groups to research facts and information about the different planets. Within our groups, we will make models of the planets using new art skills and techniques. We will also conduct some science experiments to further develop our knowledge and understanding of space.
French will continue on Monday afternoons with Mrs Grant.
Mandarin with Miss Yen will continue on Wednesday mornings and we will also have Calligraphy with Low on a Tuesday.
Just a few reminders to finish off;
- Library books are changed on a Thursday.
- PE kits are required on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- PE kits should be taken home on a Friday.
- Homework is given out on Monday and should be returned on a Friday.
