Primary 6C Reflection Leaflet
Information for Parents
This term P6C will be looking at time, position and movement. The children will have the chance to use real timetables and plan a journey around Europe.
The Golden Cubes are working on multiplication, division and algebra. The children will secure their knowledge of these concepts and apply these skills in different concepts.
The Shooting Spheres are working on different strategies to multiple and divide numbers. The children will have the chance to consolidate their knowledge and apply these strategies and methods through active and written activities.
The Diamonds are working on their multiplication and division facts. The children will learn how to use these facts to help solve different sums with more than one 1 digit.
All groups have succeeded in working on different strategies for multiplying and dividing. Golden cubes also had the chance to try long division. We have also looked at using RUCSAC when problem solving.
In writing P6C are learning to ‘up level’ their pieces of writing by setting personal writing targets. Writing will take place over 3 weeks focusing on planning, writing and editing. This will allow the children to chunk each part of the writing process to develop their writing skills.
Blue Mangoes will be learning how to answer inferential questions about their novel. We will focus on the writer’s style and structure of writing and look at why he/she has written in this way.
Limes will be learning about literally and inferential questions focusing on character and setting.
Lemons will be learning about literal questions and focusing on vocabulary used in their novel.
Listening and Talking: This term P6C will have the chance to work in groups and pairs using different listening and talking skills throughout different lessons. Also they will prepare a small presentation about an element of their topic. This will be an individual presentation.
In reading all groups have been successful in experiencing all 6 strategies of reading focusing on character and setting. We have also been using Blooms Taxonomy to help us develop our Higher Order Thinking skills.
In writing we have been looking at imaginative and report writing. We are getting better at the planning part of writing and are using targets to challenge ourselves. We also have been peer and self-assessing writing to get a better understanding of what is an ideal second level piece of writing.
Everyone enjoyed making and presenting their sea creature habitats. Lots of effort went into them and they looked great.
Health and Wellbeing
P.E and aspects of Health will be taught by Miss Robertson. They have been looking at emotions focusing on anger. Also in P.E they have been working on Scottish Country Dancing.
Our Topic this term is Scottish Sea Life. We will look at different animals that live in salt or fresh water, habitats, food chains and classifications of sea animals. We have been researching about the Loch Ness Monster to explore the truth behind the myth. We will also look at the history of the fishing industry in Scotland and why it is dying out.
This term we have really enjoyed learning about sea animals, their habitats and food chains. We also had the chance to see photos of the fishing industry in Buckie from Miss Connell’s granny. She made a book of different pictures, newspaper cuttings and information for us, the newspapers were from 1950! We also enjoyed writing stories about the Loch Ness, predicting and making conclusions about the myths.
Please remember P.E kits on Tuesday and Thursday. These will be taken home every Friday for washing.
Library will on Wednesday morning.
Homework will be given out on Monday and it is to be handed in on Friday. Could homework be signed after completion.
We now have Calligraphy and Mandarin on Tuesday and Wednesday.
