Primary 3 Learning Leaflet
Information for Parents
Primary 3 will be focusing on addition, subtraction and place value through a variety of activities this term. The class will be making, reading and verbalising numbers to 100 and sequencing numbers to 1000. They will be further investigating place value and odd and even numbers. The children will be learning how to add and subtract vertically and horizontally.
Primary 3 will be continuing to revise and consolidate the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and further develop their learning of the 3 and 4 times table. The class will be working on a range of CLIC mental activities daily to develop their mental maths strategies.
Writing – The class will be focusing on informational leaflets for the first 5 weeks of the term. The children will be learning about the features of an informational leaflet and how to create their own leaflet. The children will continue to build on their knowledge of the 4 VCOP strategies. Primary 3 will move on to a focus on imaginative writing in the last half of term 2.
Reading – A focus within reading this term will be developing the children’s evaluative skills through their weekly reading books and library books. The children will be learning how to give their personal opinion on a text based on an author’s choice of character, setting and structure. The children will experience a range of reviewing and evaluating strategies throughout the term. The children will continue to complete comprehension and book detective tasks as well as develop their expression and fluency.
Talking and Listening: Primary 3 will be introduced to debating this term as part of their Talking and Listening. The class will learn about the importance of valuing their peers opinions and how to use the language of debate. The children will take part in weekly debates on chosen topics. The children will also take part in a variety of presenting activities through their IDL learning.
Health and Wellbeing
Primary 3 will be working on Possession games this term in PE. The class will take part in a range of team games and will be learning about the importance of working as a team and sportsmanship.
Primary 3 have chosen to focus on Scottish Wildlife and habitats as our class mini topic this term. The class will be covering a range of Science and Social Studies outcomes. Some of the areas Primary 3 will be learning about this term will include:
- Wildlife specific to Scotland
- Scottish sea and river creatures
- Famous Scottish Wildlife
- Protection of Scottish Wildlife
- Endangered Scottish Wildlife
- Why do certain animals not live in Scotland (focusing on climate, habitats)
Homework will be handed out to the class on Mondays and is due on a Friday.
- The children need to bring P.E kits on Mondays and Fridays.
- The children will be issued with a new reading book on a Monday each week.
