Term 1 2015-2016

P1J

This term P1J will be focusing on developing their kinesthetic awareness and co-ordination.  We will be building on our basic movement skills through a range of travelling, jumping and throwing activities building on using the correct technique and experimenting with the different skills our body can perform.  We will also be thinking about awareness of space and sharing space safely with others.

We spent a lot of time this term building on our movement skills and getting used to sharing the space in the hall safely.  We have explored all of the different ways that we can travel and use our bodies to move around.  We will now be moving on to exploring jumping and throwing techniques and using small balls.

P1/2S

This term I will be working with the children to develop their understanding of a healthy, balanced diet and focusing on why food is important.  We will also be looking at where food comes from and developing our awareness of the different types of food there is available.

The children have learned about the importance of eating a range of fruit and vegetables as well as looking briefly at the ‘Eatwell Plate’ and discussed what our body gets from all of the different food groups.  We will look at this in more depth later on in the year.  We have discussed why breakfast is important and ways we can make sure we are eating a healthy breakfast that will set us up for learning.

P2G

This term I will be working with the children to develop their kinesthetic awareness and their gross motor skills.  We will be focusing on the different ways that the body can travel and developing our use of the basic jumps and performing these safely and correctly.

We will be developing our awareness of the journeys that food makes and where the food we eat comes from.

This term P2G have explored a lot of different ways that they can travel around the hall and use their bodies in different ways.  We have been focusing on jumping and making sure that we jump safely so that we do not injure ourselves.  We have progressed to jumping off of a bench and attempting to make some basic shapes in the air while we jump.

We have discussed that food either comes from plants or animals and we have sorted food in to categories.  We have also discussed different meat products and which animals they come from.  We have discussed foods such as bread/dairy products etc. and become more aware of the journeys the ingredients make.  We have begun to look at the Eatwell plate and discussed the importance of eating a healthy well balanced diet.

P3M

This term we will be focusing on how a wide range of foods contribute to a healthy, balanced diet.  We will be looking at the Eatwell plate and what this means and how we can ensure that we are eating a wide variety of foods.

In PE we will be building on our kinesthetic awareness and developing our skills/techniques when running and performing a range of different jumps.

We have been learning about all of the different food groups and what they do for our body.  We were also able to look at where food comes from and learn that it wither comes from a plant or an animal.  We discussed different meat products and the animals that they come from as well as looking at foods that come from plants.

We have developed our running technique successfully through circuit activities and playing a wide range of games that have helped us to apply our skills.  We have begun to look at jumping correctly and how we can perform jumps safely to avoid injury.

P4L

In PE we will be building on our gross motor skills through the context of basketball.  We will be building on our ball control skills and working as part of a successful team.

We have had a lot of fun developing our basketball skills and we have played a wide range of games to help us practice these skills and discuss ways to improve with our peers.  We have been focusing on dribbling, chest/bounce pass, attack/defence and shooting.  We are able to say how to perform these skills correctly.

P6C/P7SM/P7GM

This term we will be developing our kinesthetic awareness and our gross motor skills through the context of tag rugby.  We will look at how to handle the rugby ball, how to attack/defend and how to control our body in a match.  We will consolidate, practice and use these skills in mini games.

We will also be focusing on how we deal with and manage our emotions and begin to develop strategies to deal with these positively.

We have had a very successful term developing our rugby skills and it has been great to try a different sport.  We found passing a bit challenging but all of the children have tried very hard to develop and practice their skills through a range of drills and activities.  We have found that communication is a big part of rugby.  We have enjoyed playing mini games and we have discussed the possibility of having a P6/7 Rugby Tournament next year.
