The Hub Learning Leaflet

Information for Parents

Term 1 August to October 2015

Numeracy

This term we are continuing to build our knowledge of number bonds, including up to 10, up to 20 , up to 100 and beyond 100.

Some children will be focusing on learning the 2,3,5 and 10 times tables, whilst others are continuing to learn all the tables (2 to 10)

The children will be building on their knowledge of place value by adding and taking away numbers, initially to 100 and then numbers beyond 100.

During practical Maths time, the children will be collecting information from surveys, collating this and then making either a graph or diagram about the information. We will also be reading information from graphs or charts, in order to answer questions.

Literacy

This term all the reading groups will continue to build confidence in reading aloud and tackling unfamiliar words.

The children will also be looking at how to find information from the stories we have read which will help answer set questions. this helps develop understanding of what has been read.

In writing, initially the focus will be based around VCOP (vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation). These are the tools which help improve sentence structure.

The children  will continue to build on their knowledge of phonics, learning about blends and some common words. The spelling sounds will be covered over two week blocks to allow the children to consolidate what they have learned.

Health and Wellbeing

This term some children are concentrating on emotions and how different emotions make us feel. We are looking at friendships, the link to emotions, and what we can do when they don’t work. Controlling our emotions and the strategies to help us cope in a variety of situations, will also be explored.

A Gross Motor group will concentrate on how to control body movements. This term the focus is around moving in different directions in a variety of different ways. (Changing directions and following different paths in the gym while bouncing a ball or balancing a bean bag are some examples)
