Information for Parents
Primary 3 will be learning about shape, position and movement through a variety of activities this term. They will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes and learning about their properties. The class will also be investigating symmetry and angles. They will be learning about right angles and how to recognise lines of symmetry.
They will be continuing to revise and consolidate the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and further develop knowledge of a range of mental math strategies. The class will be working on their CLIC mental activities daily to develop their learning.
Writing – The class will be using the Big Writing Initial Impact lessons for the first 6 weeks of the term to revise and consolidate the 4 VCOP strategies (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation). The children will be creating a variety of different writing pieces focused on improving and up- leveling their writing.
Reading – A focus within reading this term will be developing the children’s summarising skills through their weekly reading books. They will be learning how to select key information, main events and how to retell the story in their own words. The children will continue to complete comprehension and book detective activities in class as well as develop their expression and fluency.
Talking and Listening: Primary 3 have been working very hard on completing their ‘talking boxes’ as part of their homework activities. The children will be sharing these with the class in the next few weeks and will focus on developing their presenting skills. The children will also take part in a variety of presenting activities through their IDL learning.
Health and Wellbeing
Primary 3 will be working on Fitness in PE this term. This will be directly linked to our topic work on the human body. The class will be learning about the importance of warm up and cool down sessions. They will be taking part in weekly fitness stations and learning how to measure heart rate at rest and after exercise.
The class will also work with Miss Robertson for PE once a week.
Primary 3 have chosen The Human Body this term as our class topic. They will be covering a range of both Health and Wellbeing and Science outcomes. Some of the areas that Primary 3 will be learning about this term include:
- The human skeleton
- The main organs of the body
- The digestive system (through a very messy science experiment!)
- Lungs and breathing
- The muscles.
- The job of the brain.
- Homework will be handed out to the class on Mondays and is due on a Friday.
- The children need to bring P.E kits on Mondays and Fridays.
- The children will be issued with a new reading book on a Monday each week.
