Information for Parents
Term 4: April – July 2015
This term we will continue to identify, order and sequence numbers to 20. We will also continue to develop and practice various strategies for mental addition and subtraction. This term the children will also be learning about the use of money. We will be focusing on recognising various coins as well as solving money problems using our addition and subtraction skills.
We will continue to develop our skills and knowledge in phonics by practicing our sounds through various daily activities.
In reading this term we will continue to complete a range of reading comprehension tasks to help develop our understanding of the text. We will focus on character descriptions as well as retelling the main events of the story in our own words.
In writing we will be working on ‘uplevelling’ our sentences by using describing words and connectives. We will also begin to write short stories with a beginning, middle and end based around some well-known fairytales.
Health and Wellbeing
In P1J our PE days will continue to be on a Wednesday and Friday. Please remember your child should bring a full PE kit (white t-shirt, black/navy shorts) on these days. P1-3 Sports Day is on Friday 15th May and will be here before we know it! We will be practising athletics and team-building activities so we can achieve our best on the day. As the nice weather is upon us, the children will enjoy the opportunity to participate in physical activities both indoors and outdoors. We will also be developing our understanding of how to keep safe in a range of emergency situations.
We will be continuing with our topic of ‘In the Jungle’ this term. We will be creating jungle inspired poems, jungle art and creating our own animal fact files. We will also be learning about electricity during Science lessons.
During our RME sessions this term we will be exploring world religions and learning about some of the principles of Buddhism. Through these lessons we will be developing respect for the practices and traditions of others.
