Information for Parents
This term we will be continuing to look at number and number processes, applying skills in real life contexts. We will be consolidating our mental and written strategies in number and revising times tables. We will also be exploring time in both analogue, digital and time durations. We will be investigating measurement linking to our topic of chocolate focusing on measuring volume and length.
This term we will be furthering our knowledge of the 6 reading strategies; prior knowledge, metalinguistic, visualization, inference, main ideas and summarizing. We will also be consolidating our application of skills independently in our reading tasks. We will continue to cover different spelling strategies and rules using activities to help learn new vocabulary. In writing we will be looking at recipe and instructional writing which is linked to our topic. We will also look at writing recount and narrative pieces of writing using our targets to improve and ‘up level’ our writing independently. We will also be focusing on handwriting and grammar once a week.
Health and Wellbeing
This term we will be focusing on our creative and fitness skills through dance with Miss Robertson. With Miss Connell we will continue to develop our hockey skills and further develop our football and netball skills. We will be developing our knowledge of the significant aspects in PE identifying which skills are needed for different exercises and activities. We will also be taking part in the annual school sports day.
We will also be starting the ‘Living and Growing’ program looking at body changes and how the baby grows.
This term our topic is ‘Chocolate and the Aztecs’ which was chosen by the pupils. We will be further developing our mapping skills and sense of the world around us. We will be investigating the history of chocolate and the Aztecs exploring their daily life and society. We will also be investigating solids and liquids and carrying out experiments to help understand the process of melting and irreversible and reversible change.
As a mini topic will also develop our knowledge of electricity by building circuits and designing a game.
To develop our skills in expressive arts, we have been given the opportunity to take part in workshops and a performance, titled ‘Warriors’ with Scottish Opera. These workshops will take place in school.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday and kits will go home every week to get washed.
Library will now be on Monday morning.
Homework is handed out on Monday and collected on Friday.
