Information for Parents
Final Term (20th April – 3rd July 2015)
This term we will continue to explore how items can be shared equally and find fractions of amounts through applying knowledge of division. Through taking part in practical activities we will learn how to describe, follow and record routes and journeys using signs, words and angles associated with direction and turning. We will explore a variety of ways in which data is presented and use this information to organise results in basic graphs.
We will continue to work in small groups to complete phonic activities. One phoneme (sound) will be given per week in addition to common words, which will be provided through homework tasks.
In reading this term we will continue to complete a range of reading comprehension tasks to help develop our understanding of the text. We will practise reading with expression and clarity through working on a new reading book every week. Books will continue to go home for extra practise.
In writing we will begin to use our table’s word books to check the spelling of tricky words independently. We will continue to practise the skill of proof-reading our work to make sure it makes sense and use appropriate punctuation such as question marks and full stops.
Health and Wellbeing
PE will continue to be on a Tuesday and Friday. Please encourage your child to bring a full PE kit on these days. P1-3 Sports Day is on Friday 15th May and will be here before we know it! We will be practising athletics and team-building activities so we can achieve our best on the day. As the nice weather is upon us, the children will enjoy the opportunity to participate in physical activities both indoors and outdoors.
Through renovating our outdoor learning area, we are contributing towards making Glashieburn School community a welcoming and enjoyable place to learn. As we are working with garden tools, we are learning to assess and manage risk, to protect ourselves and others, and to reduce the potential for harm when possible.
During our RME sessions this term we will be exploring world religions and describe some of their key beliefs. We will learn how different religions celebrate special ceremonies such as birth and marriage. Through doing so, we are developing respect for the practices and traditions of others.
Our topic this term is ‘Minibeasts’. We will be learning about the life-cycle of butterflies and frogs, the anatomy of insects, observe differences between minibeasts through looking closely at their markings, create insect stories and poems, discover various insect habitats and complete minibeast graphs. Please leave your wellies in school as we will need these a lot this term!
Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be completed and returned by Friday. We love messy art in P2, so an apron/old T-shirt is a handy thing to keep in our trays.
